Depression

How you operate.

Your motivation is low and you can’t seem to find the energy to carry you throughout your day. Perhaps you’re acting “as if” all’s well, but deep down you feel hopeless and disinterested in things that once brought you joy. You’re irritable, sad, sleeping too much or too little, and feel an overwhelming sense of “meh.”

How we help.

We’ll start by looking at what your depression is trying to tell us: Is there something in particular leading you to feel hopeless? Is the absence of something in your life contributing to a sense of emptiness? We’ll pinpoint the interactions and experiences that lead to your depression so that we can target both how you think about them and what we’re going to do to change the way you feel. We use behavioral activation strategies in treating depression, which means we often ask our clients to do the opposite of what their depression is telling them to do (for example, getting out of bed when depression says “stay here all day!”). We’ll help you connect the dots and see how changing your behavior in turn changes how you think and feel.
